I had a general anaesthesia from Dr David Uncles at Goring Hall hospital this last week. The care I received was exemplary. Dr Uncles visited my bedside before my procedure to explain all aspects of my anaesthetic and to allay any fears. The procedure itself was quick and calm. I appreciate the professional, caring treatment that I received.

I felt that Dr Uncles listened carefully to the concerns I had regarding the spinal anesthesia I will be receiving due to my previous traumatic delivery by emergency cesarean section which involved an epidural. He was interested to know which particular aspects of the previous epidural I had found to be troublesome and allowed Dr Tovell to spend time with me to fully explain what can be expected with a spinal anesthetic, including the differences between an epidural and spinal, and how it is carried out. I found this consultation to be the most useful and helpful meeting that I have received during my pregnancy, and it was most appreciated.

David had a calming manner during a time of anxiety prior to an operation, explained the procedure and medication in detail in a way of understanding.

Despite having several general anaesthetics there is no way of getting away from the fact that I was nervous. Dr Uncles spoke to me in a way that brought calmness and trust in him. He was courteous, calm, kind and listened to all I had to say. This professional and human attitude was present both at our pre-procedure meeting and also in the theatre when my anaesthetic was administered.

Profile

I am a specialist Anaesthetist with interests in Obstetric, Ambulatory and Inpatient anaesthesia. I employ a variety of anaesthetic techniques including general or regional anaesthesia, although I often use them in combination to optimise and enhance patients' peri and post-operative experience.
I am dedicated to putting the patient first through the provision of safe and reassuring care delivered in conjunction with my colleagues and associates.
I was present at the inauguration of the Helsinki Declaration in June 2010. This enshrines the values essential to the promotion of the highest professional and safety standards expected of anaesthetists. It is my hope to match or even exceed the expectations of patients who place their trust in me.
